Today:

  • 10:18 I'm going to go ahead and let you all know that I _didn't_ feel that earthquake, and wouldn't have known about it but for Twitter. #
  • 15:16 LOL, has Matt Drudge finally gone off the deep end? He's now linking to Alex Jones's Infowars. #
  • 16:00 RE: @cryptomail I see your bit.ly/FYGFN and raise you bit.ly/68nS8h B-bop>beatbox #
  • 19:55 Problem solved by openid.aliz.es RT @RaisingBoychick: I hate OpenID. Why? Because I can never remember what my damn OpenID is. #

hooray for being a geek

After a lot of frustrating fiddling around, and some looking at source code, I got Gizmo5 set up on my new floam. None of the guides online for setting up the Sipdroid app worked; I had to pull some magic numbers out of the source to an obscure variant of it. This was the equivalent of them being hidden in a disused filing cabinet in a dark bathroom with a sign on the door reading "Beware the Leopard", to borrow a phrase.

Anyway. If you happen to want to futz with Gizmo5 on your Android, grab Sipdroid and give it these settings:

server: proxy01.sipphone.com
domain: [unset]
port: 7070
protocol: TCP

Now I can go get the Dumb Pipe plan. Huzzah!

The Y2010 bug

Next time someone says that the Y2K bug was a load of rubbish, point them at this example of what happens when people don't test their software/hardware before rolling over a minor date change.

You ever find yourself in the middle of a situation where you realize, "Wow, this just really isn't good for my health" - because you can tell how your body feels at the time - but you can't stop doing it in the immediate, so you just gotta ride out what you're doing?

Yeah.

Python: Untagged Entries Exporter

I hacked the ljdump Python script someone else wrote to make an untagged entries list exporter:

http://code.google.com/p/ljuntagged/downloads/list

I tested it on Livejournal and Dreamwidth, and it seems to work, so hooray.  It mmmay work on other LJesque sites, but I don't have accounts on those, so...

If you have input on this, feel free to provide input.  I'm very new to Python, so I'm sure I missed something.

Yay!

superduperfloam

Welcome to the 21st Century, Peggy!

If any of y'all with Android phones have suggestions for good apps to grab, let me know.

(And yeah, I got this thing the day after release. I was sitting there at work with a liveblog of the keynote open, and moments after a slide with a 'store' URL showed up, I was buying one. I've been waiting at least a year to be able to buy a smartfloam with GPS and whatnot without tying myself to a high-priced 'special' plan for two years.)

I'm not sure what to think...

i keep windows out of my personal life for a reason

I am thoroughly confused as to the behavior of Windows when applying custom icons to this single-file version of this furshlugginer kiosk I'm involved in at work. Sometimes it shows up if I move the executable around, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it shows up if I move it to another machine, sometimes it doesn't.

And for some reason if I just drag it out of Parallels, where it was generated, onto the Mac, 3/5 of it is left behind and it doesn't work. But dumping it onto an USB key from Parallels then onto the Mac, then dragging that back into my virtual Windows box? Survived intact. *pounds head repeatedly into desk until blood flows*

Sweet Kali how I hate dealing with Windows. My stress level over the past few work days has been through the roof and most of that has been due to trying to wrangle fucking Windows. I don't care if it's awesome for you, for me it's like hot needles in my pain centers, with current applied at random. All these little... hitches.

2010 - The Adventure Begins!

I'm very excited to announce I've accepted a position with Twitter!

As a Capacity Planning Manager, I'll be working on data center and hosting solutions for Twitter in support of their continued growth. In addition to working in an area that I have great interest in technically, I'll be back in the online community and social networking world that has been a part of my career development and personal interest for over 10 years now. As a part of their Technical Operations team, I'll be working with a group of smart, dedicated and excited individuals with similar passion for their services.

I'll still live in Seattle as my home base, but will be in San Francisco often to work with the Technical Operations team.

Here's to 2010 and new adventures!

Ten years ago to this day, I was eighteen.

*giggling*

I had this weird urge to hear In The Court of the Crimson King just now, so I cued it up. And after the last chord of this pompous, moody epic resonated to silence, what did my computer serve up next?

Two clockwork mice singing about how much they like to eat candy, in thick Japanese accents.

My music collection makes me laugh sometimes.

Today it struck me that when I think of Rorschach from Watchmen, I also think of Horshack from Welcome Back, Kotter. So I did one of Rorschach's speeches in Horshack's voice. It entertained me, anyway.

I also imagined that when Mad Magazine did their take on Watchmen, they probably called Rorschach 'Horshack'... or considered it, until they realized none of their readers would know who they were talking about.

The reason Horshack came up today is that I had this mental conversation with someone I used to know. "You'd put on some weight and you let your hair grow out into this big 'fro. Not an Epstein 'fro, just a Horshack 'fro."

This entry sounds very much like drugs were involved...
